Children’s Books about Books

When I became a mother, one of my priorities was sharing my love of books with my children. We have several overflowing bookcases in their hallway and each child has their own bookcase or two in their rooms that are filled with age-appropriate books. My eldest child is almost a teenager, and we still all sit together nightly for a story before bedtime. It’s often my favorite time of the day.

I have taught them to love stories and reading, but I also wanted to share my love of the physical book as well. They’ve seen me binding and repairing books in my studio so they had some idea that my love of books goes beyond reading. It’s not easy to find picture books for children with that message or about book collecting. Below are three of my favorite children’s books about books. I especially love the picture in The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore where the main character is acting as a book doctor. Wouldn’t it be great to have more children’s books published about book collecting to get the younger generations hooked?
